All things sweet...

For part of my lesson on Wednesday night at Church, we decorated sugar cookies. Some were in the shape of a cross which represented Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, the others were in the shape of a flower which represents the new life given to us after accepting Jesus Christ. I thought I would share a few of the decorated cookies.
Now, decorating is not my forte, but the one above is the cookie I decorated. Below is a few that the kids decorated.

I found the the flower shaped cookie pan and wooden sticks at Hobby Lobby. This made the flower making very easy! All you have to do is press the dough into the pan. I love Hobby Lobby!

The cookies turn out like this.
You can use your favorite cookie recipe or try this sugar cookie recipe that I used. It has a delecious cake like texture. I found the recipe at Taste of Home. You can find it here.

The kids enjoyed decorating the cookies and learning about the Easter story.

We had an Easter egg hunt, but the eggs were not filled with candy. Instead, they were each filled with part of the Easter story. I found a great way to tell children the Easter story using plastic eggs.
I numbered 2 sets of plastic eggs 1-12. One set had tangible items that represented the Easter story. The other set of eggs had a phrase and verse that matched with each item.
The younger children found eggs with tangible items that represented the Easter story such as a rock that represented the rock moved away from Jesus' tomb.
The older children had versus from the Easter story and a paraphrase of what happened. For example, the verse that went with the egg that had the rock in it was John 20:1, "The stone covering Jesus' tomb was rolled away."
After all the eggs were found. The children opened the eggs starting with egg 1. Both children with egg one told what was in their egg. The younger child had a piece of a palm branch in his egg. The older student told us what this represented. It represented the people waving the palm branches as Jesus rode into Jerusalem. We went through all the eggs to complete the Easter Story.

This was a sweet way to tell the Easter Story!

Finally, let us remember the sweetest one of all, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
"For God so loved the word that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall have eternal life." John 3:16
